Get at least four to five price quotes. You will find that there are several websites out there that can save you the time from doing this the slow and hard way as they will often get you quotes from up to a dozen companies all at once. You can call companies directly or access information on the Internet. Your state insurance department may also provide comparisons of prices charged by major insurers. And no, companies like Progressive that claim they will compare other companies, but they are an insurance company, so they are not to be trusted. They only have one interest, and that is to promote their own business.

Bigger is not always better. There are several low cost automobile insurance companies offering competitive rates in relation to the big names out there. This makes it possible to save a bundle on this expense. Many people seem to ignore this cost and tend to accept the burden of expensive insurance even when monthly payments almost match a car payment. In one case, I lowered my car insurance rates by about 50% when I found a good local company (I had switched from a really big name company).

One of the best ways to get cheap car insurance is simply to use a service that forces insurance agents and brokers to compete against one another. At the end of this article is one example of such a site. As soon as you finish your online quote request, multiple agents will contact you. But it is important to NOT sign up with any one of them immediately-Instead, let them know that you are awaiting calls from other local insurance providers. After 5 or so of these people have contacted you, you should have a good idea of what sort of range you might expect to pay.

Then, if you really want to get the cheapest car insurance possible, simply tell the agents that you are ready to buy within the next 24 hours with whichever company offers you the lowest insurance rates. This really puts the fire under them, and is sure to create the most optimal pricing for you. Of course, be sure to carry through on your promise.

If it makes sense, you may want to consider getting a bundle package. Basically, see what it might cost to insure not only your car, but also your home, property, health and life insurance. This can save a person around 10% - 30% depending on the company you go with; and it does make paying your bills easier as well.

Oh, and one more tip, remember that the more info you provide upfront, the more accurate your quotes will be, and the more likely the insurance companies will be responsive to your inquiry. This is especially true when filling out a quote from multiple companies.

Yamaha and Petronas extend collaboration into MotoGP

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd has signed a three-year agreement with PETRONAS that will see the Malaysian national oil and gas corporation become an important new Official Sponsor and Premium Partner of the Fiat Yamaha Team.

Under the new partnership, the Fiat Yamaha Team will carry the PETRONAS branding on the team’s liveries, including on the bikes of riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo as well as team equipment and material.

The two parties are also partners in sporting collaborations in motorcycle championships in the Asia Pacific region for over eight years.

The partnership will lead to the future extension of the existing business relationship in Malaysia into the South-East Asian region for the development and production of Yamalube engine oil for Yamaha OEM vehicles.

For PETRONAS, the latest collaboration with Yamaha will enable it to continue building the position of its international lubricants business through a strategic partnership with another globally successful manufacturer and brand.

“This is a very exciting development for Yamaha and for the sport of MotoGP,” commented Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing. “Yamaha and PETRONAS already have a successful business relationship away from racing, and this new, long-term, business partnership will see the ties between the two multi-national companies strengthened further. You have to be smart or you end up losing more money than you ought to. It is a very common scheme among car buyers to first get money in order to buy a new car.

The term is called “auto financing” and it simply means how you pay for a vehicle. You can finance a car by taking out an auto loan to own a car, in which case, you have two options: You either use the money from the loan to buy the car, or use it for lease.

If this isn’t your first time buying a car, you might already know that the salesman or your car dealer will be checking your credit report before starting with the negotiations. But this is not the only way you can go to get that new car of yours. The seller will try to sweeten the deal and offer you special car finance situations in exchange for throwing yourself totally at his mercy. That is not a path you have to choose.

The key is preparation. Knowing what auto financing options you have before you get to the dealership will mean that you can take charge of your credit and take charge of your car loan.

Just remember, when you negotiate with the salesman for the most favorable auto loan, nothing is permanent until you have it in writing. So haggle and then haggle some more. Once negotiations seem to be over, that’s when the sales contract is prepared.

Inflated Interest Rates

To have the deal agreed upon by you and the salesman be put in writing in a binding contract is top on the list of the things you must do involving auto financing. Often involved at this part of the procedure is to determine monthly auto loan payments based on an interest rate. Now, as you well know, the interest rate varies from car buyer to car buyer. Your credit is only one of the factors and if the interest rate a car buyer qualifies for is inflated, then the dealership can make extra profit off your loan. That’s just one of the pitfalls in auto financing.

Independent Auto Financing

When you have the approved auto financing option on hand, you can then proceed with the deal as a “cash buyer” so to speak as you already have the cash in hand from the loan and you are just buying the car from the dealer with that money. Car salesmen prefer customers to be “monthly payment” buyers as this makes it easier for them to obscure the total cost of the vehicle, to the detriment of your savings. So wizen up and take that independent auto financing option available.

Set a Price Range

Having a budget is the sensible thing to do. If you set a sensible price range for yourself, then you have less reason to go beyond that range and succumb to the temptation of overspending. If you’re really firm on that budget, no amount of sales talk can sway you. One good tip is to ensure that your monthly car payments and related expenses do not exceed about 20% of your monthly net income.

Discounted Financing vs. Rebate

Here’s the dilemma to car buying: Many dealers offer an option between discounted financing or a rebate, but not both. Discounted financing means that you get zero-percent financing while rebate means that you get a certain amount of cash some time after purchase. The common error many car buyers make is that the zero-percent loan will deliver the most savings. But will it really?

Get the Cash Rebate

In most cases, it’s better to get the cash rebate and apply it against the purchase price of the vehicle. If you already have a pre-approved car loan, then that’s even better because you have positively no need of extra financing from your dealer. Just use your car loan to finance the car and let the rebate handle some of the charges.

You will have to choose how long you want your lease to be and how much you’re willing to pay upfront. The obvious choice, of course, would be to pay as little as possible, but be sure to weigh other options as well. After that, the car is yours for the period stipulated in the lease contract.

There are several other different plans those car buyers like you can adopt in order to make the most out of your money and reduce costs at the dealership. Understanding the credit process is just one way of being a smart buyer.

Auto Insurance Faqs: Accidents Happen

With over 6 million auto accidents per year in the United States alone, there's a good chance that you or someone close to you will be involved in an auto accident at some point. Having auto insurance is a great way to be prepared for an auto accident. When shopping for auto insurance, it's important to look at auto insurance rates
and quotes and do some comparing. Knowing how to proceed in the event of an auto accident can save you time, money, and headaches, especially if your car is damaged.

Q: What should I do if I've just had an auto accident?

A: Assuming there are no injuries, here's a checklist of how to proceed:

1.Call 911 to report the auto accident. You'll want a copy of a police report for any future claim, especially if the accident was not your fault. If the damage is minor and the other driver wants to negotiate a settlement on the spot, be wary: You could have unseen damage. 2.Don't bother engaging the other driver in an argument about who was at fault - the police will handle that. 3.Write down the other driver's name and insurance information. 4.If you have a camera in your car, get some shots of the damage and general accident scene. 5When you get home, call your auto insurance company to report the accident if there will be a claim on your policy. If the other driver was at fault and you don't live in a "no-fault" state, contact their auto insurance company to start the claims process.

Whether the car damage is minor or extensive, your main goal is to get enough information in order to protect your best interests later. And remember that honesty is the best policy in reporting the circumstances of the auto accident.

Q: What coverage pays for damage to my car?

A: If you're at fault in an auto accident (whether you've crashed into someone else or into a fence), you'll need collision coverage if you want your repairs covered. If you don't have collision coverage, you'll need to pay for repairs out of your own pocket. Some drivers drop collision coverage when their cars get older because the potential cost of fixing them is more than the value of the cars.

If someone else crashes into you, their liability auto insurance must pay for repairs to your vehicle. This is called a "third-party" claim because you're making a claim on their auto insurance company.

If you live in a "no-fault" state, you always make a claim on your own policy no matter who is at fault.

Q: Do I have to use my auto insurer's body shop for repairs?

A: No, you can never be forced to use a repair shop that your auto insurance company designates. However, you may find it's more convenient to do so. Many auto insurance companies have customer service programs that streamline your claim process by handling paperwork and your rental car from the repair shop and fully guaranteeing the work.

You can never be too prepared when it comes to an auto accident. Hopefully, these FAQ's have given you some helpful advice and information if you or someone you know has to face this situation in the near future. Auto insurance companies are there to help you sort through the car damage and remove some of the headaches and worries for you. Auto accidents aren't something that we like to think about, but thinking ahead will help you and your auto rates in the long run.

2009 Honda Civic Hybrid

The 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid ranks 3 out of 35 Affordable Small Cars. Although many auto writers categorize the Civic Hybrid's performance as underwhelming, even among other small engine hybrids, the Civic Hybrid gets outstanding gas mileage -- second only to the popular Toyota Prius.

Chances are most people consider the Civic an alternative hybrid vehicle to the Prius rather than the other way around. The Prius' 2009 EPA rating is currently 48/45 mpg city/highway, its cabin is both upscale and roomy, and its exterior styling has become synonymous with "hybrid."

But the Civic Hybrid's distinction from the Prius continues to be its conventional styling. If that appeals to you, also consider the Toyota Camry Hybrid. In addition to its traditional Camry shape, this option is praised for the balanced drive offered by the four-cylinder engine and hybrid motor.

The gas-engine Honda Civic comes in a number of trims, as well as a performance Si trim and the two-door coupe, but the 2009 Civic Hybrid is only offered as a four-door sedan. The exterior has been slightly refreshed and new interior features have been added for 2009.

"Honda's Civic hybrid is a good alternative for those who don't need Toyota Prius' distinctive styling to advertise their fuel saving heroics." -- USA Today

"The Honda Civic Hybrid is one of the best hybrids available, with an affordable price, excellent driving dynamics, and fuel economy matched by few other models." -- Forbes

"Whether your interest in hybrids is driven by political, environmental or financial considerations, the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid allows you to address those issues in a vehicle that's just about as comfortable and stylish as a compact sedan can be with little sacrifice in drivability." -- Kelley Blue Book

"Honda's reputation for practical economy is shown in the Civic Hybrid, well-built and simply designed to sip fuel. Of course nobody wants to pay more money than they have to, but in the other hand we also want to make sure that our car insurance company is going to respond quickly and fairly in case of an accident.

What is unknown to many is that there is not one single car insurance company that is cheaper than others. One particular car insurance company can be the cheapest for one person but the most expensive for another. Each car insurance company has a certain category of drivers they want to insure. If you fit their category they will offer you a cheap rate, if you don’t, they will offer you an expensive rate. That is their way of filtering the people they want and do not want to insure. That is the reason we need to compare insurance rates from multiple car insurance companies, to find out which company will offer us the cheapest rate. The key is to find the company that offers the cheapest rate for you, but of course, it is important to compare rates from quality companies only.

There are many quality car insurance companies out there; however, some of those quality companies also have a high price to go along with them. How do we find a quality company for a cheap price? That, my friend, is the key question.

The traditional method of shopping for car insurance is to call around which we all know can be a long process. Another drawback of shopping for car insurance by phone is the probability of getting caught with the old “bait and hook” trick. That is when someone gives you a low quote by phone and hikes it up on you when you go into their office to purchase the car insurance policy.

In today’s world, luckily, we have the internet. The internet makes life a lot easier for all of us. Using the internet, we can shop for many types of things we may need which include shopping for car insurance.

Shopping for car insurance online is the best way to compare rates from multiple car insurance companies. Online, you can also read about a company’s history and make sure they’re a quality company. Most companies offer instant online car insurance quotes thorough their websites which makes obtaining car insurance quotes a lot easier than the traditional method of shopping by phone. Better yet, there are some websites that offer online car insurance quotes from multiple companies with one simple process. You can even purchase your car insurance online if you like the price. One such website is OnlineAutoInsurance.com. There, you can obtain quotes from quality companies such as Progressive, AIG, Infinity, GMAC, Bristol West, and several more. All with one simple process!

Lexus GS 350 Review

The 2008 Lexus GS makes its mark with sense as well as speed, restraint as well as luxury. Although it's easy to think of it as an alternative to an Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz, the Lexus GS embraces an entirely different set of values.

Lexus itself has promoted the phrase "L-finesse" to define its way of crafting an automobile, an example of market-speak that gets right to the heart of the 2008 Lexus GS. This sport sedan is meant to be dynamic, yet free of gimmicks. It is meant to combine precision with lavish, luxurious appointments. It is meant to deliver a high standard of automotive performance, yet be easily intuitive to drive. Amazing examples of automotive technology are included as standard equipment, yet the driver is never aware of them. The Lexus GS does everything you ask, and yet it always feels effortless.

The third-generation Lexus GS came to market for 2006, a showcase of Toyota's most advanced technology. It arrived with more computing power than some third-world countries and a standard of luxury usually enjoyed only in the best zip codes. The GS was further improved for 2007. For 2008, it gets a new, much-improved V8 engine.

The 2008 GS 460 replaces the previous GS 430. The new V8 is a 4.6-liter that makes 342 horsepower, 52 more than last year's 4.3-liter V8. It is also now mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that replaces a six-speed. For added performance, the transmission includes a sport mode that enables you to manually make sequential shifts with the console-mounted gear lever.

There's also a hybrid: The GS 450h combines the 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor for improved power and fuel economy.

The 2008 GS 350 features a 303-hp, 3.5-liter V6 and six-speed automatic with manual shift gate. All-wheel drive is available.

Other 2008 changes include a revised front fascia, a new chrome grille surround, the addition of side-mirror turn signals, and new wheels designs. On the inside, all GS models get a revised instrument panel, a brushed aluminum shift plate surround, and wood trim door switch plates.

Rear-wheel drive is what makes the GS a driver's car. Front-wheel drive is never as sporting. All-wheel drive is also available and is beneficial in foul weather. The all-wheel-drive models feature a fast-acting, clutch-type center differential that sends 70 percent of the power to the rear wheels under normal circumstances to help foster the dynamics of a rear-wheel-drive car. When wheel sensors detect slippery road conditions, as much as 50 percent of engine power is diverted to the front wheels to increase the car's overall traction on the road.

Any version of the GS is a luxurious car with a strong engine and surprisingly capable handling. Also surprising is the fact that ride quality suffers with the available 18-inch wheels; Lexuses are usually pillow soft. Tall drivers might want to avoid the GS and so will those who need to haul cargo on a regular basis. But, if you're in the market for a midsize luxury/sport sedan, the GS is a fine choice and the hybrid model offers unique combination of performance and fuel economy.

Spies cleans up with sensational double win in Qatar

Yamaha rider Ben Spies lived up to the hype again in Qatar today, riding an incredible two races to take his second and third consecutive victories in the Losail heat. Dropping to fifth from the start of the first race, the three-time AMA champion moved up to third position on lap four to tuck in behind race leader Max Biaggi and second placed rider Noriyuki Haga for most of the race. The super calm Texan waited for his moment six laps from the end to make his move. As Haga moved out to look up the inside of Biaggi, Spies took the opportunity and passed him on the inside, before taking Biaggi on the next corner as the Italian race leader ran wide. From the moment he took the lead Spies win was never in doubt as he cleanly pulled away from the battle for second. Spies' team-mate Tom Sykes had a frustrating start, dropping several places up to ninth position before fighting his way back through to finish seventh.

Race two saw Spies dominate again, after initially dropping a couple of places from the start line, he moved up behind Haga and Biaggi again before moving out to take the lead on lap seven. The American superstar then put in a sensational performance of perfect laps, increasing the comfort zone until taking the chequered flag in style, comfortably ahead of second place Haga. Spies leaves Qatar in second place in the standings, ten points behind Haga in the championship. Spies also takes the new lap record for the Qatar circuit away with him this weekend.

Tom Sykes got a better start to race two and fought with Yukio Kiyonari and Troy Corser in the opening laps for fifth position. Under the guidance of experienced team boss Hervé Poncharal, the team took two podium finishes and a further 11 top-six finishes to make them MotoGP’s top independent team in 2008.

Having already sealed a personal sponsorship deal with reigning MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi recently, Monster Energy continue their global push with the support of one of the sport’s most experienced outfits. Already the number one by-volume sales energy drink in the USA, support of the French team will help its growth across the rest of the world and particularly in Europe - where MotoGP is one of the most highly prized events on the sporting calendar.

Monster Energy President, Mark Hall, explained the reasons behind the company’s decision to extend their commitment to the sport, “Both Colin and James have built huge followings throughout their careers and they are extremely popular riders, so Monster Energy is pleased to become part of their continued efforts through our partnership with the Tech 3 Yamaha team for the upcoming ‘09 MotoGP season. Tech 3 has a highly successful track record as one of MotoGP’s premier teams and will provide a solid platform for Monster Energy as we continue to develop our brand image globally.”

At the head of the Tech 3 team since its conception in 1989, and having taken the team to World Championship success in the 250 class in 2000, Poncharal admits the new deal has excited the whole squad. “It’s great to be linked with a growing brand such as Monster Energy, which has such a strong image and a big profile. Monster are very keen to support MotoGP and I’m sure that our partnership will prove to be very successful. The 2009 Yamaha package with the Bridgestone tires has looked extremely promising in pre-season tests so far. Our aims are to go even better than in 2008, and thanks to this agreement we are highly motivated to do so.”

MONSTER YAMAHA TECH 3 recently finished testing at the Losail circuit in Qatar where the MotoGP World Championship will kick-off with the night-time Grand Prix of Qatar, which runs under floodlights on the evening of April 12th.

Yamaha R1 2009

Well the next in the not particularly long line of Supersport Litre bike releases has been announced with Yamaha unveiling it's all new R1. The original YZF R1 was launched by Yamaha in 1998 in a choice of two colors... Blue or Red and White, the blue in particular selling virtually faster than it could be produced.

The R1 in all its previous incarnations has been hugely successful, in part obviously due to the awesome performance... but in my (not so humble) opinion in equally large measure because the bikes... especially since 2000/01... looked ANGRY! The front, with its scowl and "evil eye" headlights later with ram air intakes below has always captivated and intimidated.

This front facia is the first change you will notice, the ram air intakes are now integrated into the headlight area... or in fact the small round lights are sunk into the intakes... not an improvement in my view. Other styling changes are not particular radical... the only thing that really stands out as a feature are the twin, fat, underseat exhausts. These succeed in achieving little in the suave stakes except making the R1's rear look decidely lardy.

So what radical changes have been made then? Well the new crank design seems to be the main talking point. It is part of what Yamaha call a "Cross Plane" engine... this apparently supplies an uneven firing interval design that is derived from the M1 MotoGP bike. This is supposed to allows the engine’s torque to build smoothly and provide a very linear power delivery out of the corners. This combo is will apparently allow low RPM torque and high RPM horsepower. According to Yamaha the new YZF-R1 is "Not a continuation of existing supersport development; it is breakthrough technology that represents a paradigm shift in both technology and performance"

The new R1 also features a big pile of... the most important thing in any sport motorcycle... Acronyms! There appears to be a lot of stuff that is YCCerized in other words this is "Yamaha Chip Controlled" and extends from YCC-T or "Throttle" to YCC-I for "Intake" Add to this the rider selectable D-Mode... or Drive Mode which is effectively a 3 mode switchable setting for the Fly By Wire throttle, the modes are "Normal" which provides an all round performance setting... Warp 9. Then there is "A" and "B" mode "A" being for better low to mid speed engine response... presumably for "round town" work. The "B" mode is a slightly more gentle variation for low traction or difficult situations... wet roundabouts and the like.

It doesn't though, for all this technical gadgetry provide an anti wheelie or traction control system which is dissapointing. Still I can't wait to ride the bike and see how the 182hp and 115Nm of torque feel in the real world. Unfortunately, the overall impression is that after so many years waiting for a completely revised R1 this bike is something of a let down especially the chunky... and less than aggressive styling... especially in the rear.

Toyota Venza Review

To hear Toyota tell it, the 2009 Toyota Venza is the most revolutionary thing to happen to the auto industry since the assembly line. The reality, however, is that the new Venza Toyota is just another in the long list of crossover vehicles to hit the market lately.
Reviews read by TheCarConnection.com show that Toyota has gone to great lengths to create a new vehicle class with the 2009 Toyota Venza. Cars.com reports that "the Toyota folks aren't calling the Venza a crossover, but they aren't sure it's a car, either," and "they're not even dubbing it a wagon or a hatchback—all they want to make clear is that the Venza is not an SUV." For those looking for a traditional title for the 2009 Toyota Venza, it is essentially Toyota's latest crossover. There's not much variety in the model lineup either, according to Cars.com, where reviewers explain, "Toyota went simple with the Venza in terms of trim levels. There are only four," which consist simply of the various combinations of the two available engines and two- or four-wheel-drive options. Most reviewers appreciate the new exterior styling of the Venza Toyota, and Car and Driver decides that "whatever it is, it looks good in the metal." The Detroit News loves the "clean and unassuming looks," while MyRide.com praises the "attractive styling."

The interior of the Venza Toyota also wins praise from many reviewers. ConsumerGuide points out the "large gauges are easy to read," and "with or without navigation, Venza has a simple, handy, and logical control system." Car and Driver also notes that "aesthetically, the Venza interior features many nice touches," but at the same time they find that "the dual-zone HVAC controls seem as if they were crammed into the design at the last minute." Back on the positive side of things, Cars.com reports that the trip computer, which contains a variety of data and controls, "sits squarely atop the dash," which is "the perfect place for such a screen in terms of keeping the driver's eyes trained on the road, and it's unbelievably crisp and clear."

Future of former Honda team secured

Honda and Ross Brawn have confirmed that they have reached agreement to secure the future of the former Honda Racing F1 Team, with ownership passing to team principal Brawn with immediate effect. Subject to FIA approval, the team will become known as the Brawn GP Formula One Team.

Brawn has agreed a partnership with Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines, Brixworth, UK to supply the team with its 2.4 litre Mercedes-Benz FO108W Formula One engines. This too remains subject to FIA approval.

The team have also confirmed that their race driver line-up for the 2009 season will combine the talents of two of Formula One's most experienced drivers in Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. The race-winning drivers continue their partnership at the team for a fourth consecutive year, forming the most experienced driver partnership on the grid with 423 Grand Prix starts between them.

Brawn commented: "The past few months have been extremely challenging for the team but today's announcement is the very pleasing conclusion to the strenuous efforts that have been made to secure its future.

"Firstly, it is a great shame that having worked with Honda Motor Company for so long we can no longer continue together. I would like to thank Honda for the fantastic co-operation and support we have received throughout this process - particularly those members of the senior management who were closely involved with concluding our agreement - and for the faith they have demonstrated in myself and our team.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to pay due credit to our staff at Brackley. The levels of motivation and commitment that I have witnessed at the factory deserve the highest praise.

"I am delighted that Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello will form our race driver line-up for the 2009 season. The vast experience and knowledge that both drivers bring to our team will prove invaluable as we aim to get up to speed in the shortest possible time to be ready for the first race of the season in Melbourne on 29 March. In what will be their fourth season together, their experience with our team in Brackley, our systems and our engineers, will prove a real asset.”

Hiroshi Oshima, Managing Officer of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. responsible for Corporate Communications and Motor Sports, commented: "Since announcing our withdrawal from Formula One racing on December 5 of last year, we have conducted various studies and discussions so that the team can continue its activities as a new team. We are very pleased that we could sell the team to Ross Brawn, with whom we have been partaking in the challenges of F1 competition, and are grateful for his decision. We offer our sincerest wishes for the new team which will be led by Ross."

Brawn and the team will now focus its efforts on the remaining pre-season tests, in Barcelona (March 9-12) and Jerez (March 15-17) prior to heading to Melbourne, Australia for the start of the 2009 Formula One season.

Pedrosa set to miss Jerez test after post-crash surgery

Dani Pedrosa is currently laid up in a Barcelona hospital following surgery on his left arm and knee, required due to a testing crash in Qatar that has become even more threatening to his 2009 World Championship chances.

Operated on at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus in the Spanish city, Pedrosa was concurrently subjected to two operations on his left knee and fractured left distal radius –the procedure for the former taking three hours and involving a rotation skin graft from his thigh to replace lost skin and fat.

Surgery on the knee was performed by Dr Bartolomé Ferreira, who indicated after the procedure that minimal movement would be possible within three weeks after the formation of scar tissue, and that the soonest the Spaniard would be able to bend the appendage would be in one month’s time. This would see Pedrosa ruled out of the final test of the MotoGP preseason at Jerez.

The former MotoGP World Championship runner-up’s arthroscopic arm operation was carried out by his regular surgeon Dr. Xavier Mir, who inserted a titanium screw in the joint that will allow full function within ten days.

Pedrosa will be released from hospital before the start of next week, but is unlikely to be at 100% fitness for the start of the 2009 season. The Repsol Honda rider has undertaken just three complete days of testing so far this year, previously leaving the Sepang run-out a day early after complaining of a lack of recuperation in his knee (previously operated on in December).

2009 will be the second season in succession that Pedrosa has been hit by preseason problems. In 2008 he required the insertion of a titanium plate in his hand to fix damage suffered in a crash in Sepang. He reappeared for last year’s Official Test in Jerez, but sat out the BMW M Award shootout so as not to risk reinjuring himself in the rainy conditions. His absence from testing left development of the Honda RC212V to former teammate Nicky Hayden –a task that now falls on current partner Andrea Dovizioso.

Bridgestone accelerate tyre development at Losail

The penultimate preseason test of 2009, at the Losail International Circuit this week, gave Bridgestone a chance to finalise their preparations for the start of this year’s World Championship on the 10th-12th April weekend on the same track, with the Japanese company also using the data gathered to up the pace in their 2010 tyre development programme.

Indeed, due to some unexpected weather, the Qatar test provided an opportunity for the selected soft and medium compound Bridgestone slicks to fully demonstrate their capacity across a wide range of conditions. Despite its desert location, an unusual and heavy downpour on the opening day left areas of the circuit damp and greasy, whilst high winds and a residual layer of sand tested the operating range of the tyres in a diverse set of circumstances.

The first ever World Championship winner on Bridgestone rubber, Casey Stoner, was the fastest rider at the test, whilst last year’s MotoGP title winner Valentino Rossi, who also achieved success with Bridgestone in 2008, was third fastest overall.

Rossi’s team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, who ran Michelins in his debut premier class campaign last year, was second quickest on the final timesheet and is beginning to look more comfortable on the new generation Bridgestone tyres with every contact.

Tohru Ubukata, Bridgestone’s Manager of Motorcycle Race Tyre Development, summarised the test, stating, “The feedback from the riders over the three nights was positive in what were challenging conditions. The track was quite dusty and sandy this time, and as a result of the increased abrasion we suffered slight graining with the soft compound tyre at the start of the test, but the medium compound worked well even in these tough conditions.”

He continued, “I am happy about this result as it shows that just two specifications can cover such a range of difficult conditions.”

Making reference to the recent MotoGP rule changes, which have reduced practice and testing during the 2009 season to help teams reduce their costs, Ubukata added, “The recent FIM regulation changes have affected our development plan, so looking now at development for 2010 is very important. We now have to finish 80 per cent of our development for next season during this winter testing period because in-season testing has been significantly reduced.”

“As a result, as well as bringing the soft and medium compound tyres from this year’s line-up, we brought some new compounds in development for 2010, where the target is to give the tyres an even wider still operating range. We have had successful tests both here and at Sepang last month, so we are now in a position to make more precise compound selections for each coming Grand Prix this season.”

Toyota Prius Review

This second-generation Prius, introduced as a 2004 model, is larger than the original, and is now a midsize car. It's roomy, with adult-size back seats and lots of cargo space. And it's also more pleasant to look at, with sleek, futuristic styling. It's easy to spot in a crowded supermarket lot.

At low speeds and under moderate acceleration, the Prius has zero emission from the tailpipe, being purely battery-powered. The real justification to buy a Prius is its extremely low emissions. It produces almost zero pollution and is one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles available. The Prius is an excellent choice for those who want to reduce air pollution and our dependence on fossil fuels. The Prius is not cheap, but it's an amazing piece of engineering that achieves those goals.

When extra power is required, a very high-tech 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine starts up and assists the electric motor. When the brakes are used, or the Prius is coasting down a hill, the batteries are charged by the energy that would normally have been converted into heat by the brakes. The batteries are also recharged by the petrol engine, so the Prius doesn't need to be plugged into the mains for recharging.

Performance is nothing special and the fuel consumption in real life driving isn't as low as that suggested by official fuel-consumption tests. And we have heard of turbo-diesels with similar performance using just as little fuel as the hybrid Toyota.

Prius has reasonably good handling characteristics and holds the road well enough, however it's spoiled by a rather wooden feel to the steering.

There is an argument that the Prius is not overall as environmentally friendly as some alternative cars. The life span of the Prius is claimed to be 150,000Kms to 300,000Kms, whereas the Golf very commonly lasts 500,000Kms and more. Given the tremendous resources consumed in the manufacture of any new vehicle, the vastly greater durability of a diesel far outweighs the slightly lesser fuel economy and environmental impact.

Furthermore, you can donate the (up to) $20,000 saving to an environmental organisation. Or buy loads of diesel fuel!

One of the things that made the Prius a big success in the USA was that some states (including California) allowed all hybrid cars to use car pool lanes regardless of the number of passengers in the car. This practice was stopped in California at the beginning of 2007 since the state government had then managed to reach the target of hybrid cars they wanted to achieve.

Privacy Policy for www.allautorev.blogspot.com

If you require any more information or have any questions about our privacy policy, please feel free to contact us by email at thetrisatria@gmail.com.

At www.allautorev.blogspot.com, the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us.
